Bamboo Garden Fence
A bamboo garden fence is an easy way to fence in a garden patch.
A bamboo garden fence is a wonderful addition to a garden area. It can be used to create a
boundary between the garden and the rest of your outdoor space. Unless you have a very large yard, chances are that
your garden is quite visible. Bamboo garden fences can block those messy weed piles and compost piles from plain
sight as well as keeping unwanted four legged visitors out.
So why choose bamboo when there are so many other fencing materials out there? An important consideration for
many is the cost of putting up a fence. With bamboo you have a very inexpensive option and it is easy to install.
Even though it may not look solid, bamboo is a strong and durable fencing material. It will stand up well to all
types of weather as well as to the sun, making it a good choice for a garden fence.
Like any natural material, bamboo will break down over a period of time and so it does need care. It’s a good
idea to apply a treatment that is suitable for your area and type of weather to keep your bamboo garden fence in
good condition.
Using bamboo garden fences to separate your garden from the rest of the yard will provide an easy fencing
solution that is aesthetically pleasing. Bamboo fencing is easy to install onto either an existing fence or onto a
wooden frame. Use heavy duty staples or galvanized wire for the best results.
To screen a selected area, a moveable fence may be the best option. Bamboo fence panels
are easy to assemble and then take apart when the time comes. If built on a frame they are simple to move around as
well.
If your fence is primarily to keep critters from invading your garden and eating the fruits of your labor, you
will probably have to use a wood frame with bamboo fence panels. Although bamboo is durable and long lasting, it
deteriorates quickly if it comes into direct contact with the ground. Here’s how to avoid that problem.
Plan on using wood fence posts to sink into the ground. Then you can frame individual bamboo panels between
pieces of wood. To prevent gaps at the bottom of the fence, place a wooden board along the fence bottom. Keep it
snug to the ground and be sure the bamboo does not overlap the wood.
As a gardener, you are probably an environmentally conscious person. You will be happy to know that bamboo is
considered a renewable resource. Because it is a grass and not a tree it grows quickly, reaching maturity in about
7 years. Compare that to how long it takes for a tree to reach full maturity, or the energy required to make a
chain link fence.
With its versatility, durability, and relatively low cost, a bamboo garden fence is the perfect
choice for the backyard garden patch.
