Bamboo Garden Fencing-

Discover why bamboo garden fencing is an effective garden fence and find out how to install it.

There are a lot of options when you decide to install a fence around your garden area. Done right, a garden fence can add to the appearance of your yard as well as protecting it from animals. Bamboo garden fencing does both of these.

Bamboo garden fences come in many different sizes and designs. You can use either premade fence panels or you can create your own using split or rolled bamboo. Either way will produce outstanding results.

If you have time and want to add your own creative touch, you may want to build your own fence. There are several steps you can take to make the process easier.

When constructing a bamboo garden fence, it’s best to use pressure treated posts for the post holes. Because these are treated, they will last longer than cedar posts, so your bamboo fence will also last longer.

Always cut bamboo canes with a fine bladed hacksaw. Other types of saws can cause splitting. When cutting the bamboo cane, be sure that you cut above the joint and at an angle, instead of cutting straight across. This allows the membrane to protect against water collecting.

When you are ready to attach the bamboo to the fence posts, use a drill to make a hole slightly bigger than the nail. By doing this, you reduce the chance that the bamboo splits or gets crushed.

One important fact to note about bamboo is that it is a grass and not a type of wood. So, it can’t be allowed to sit directly on the ground. If it does, it will deteriorate. This can be avoided easily. In cases where you’d like your fence to fit tightly against the ground, just run a piece of wood across the bottom and then attach the bamboo above it.

Bamboo garden fencing can last years if properly built and maintained. Just like a wooden fence, it needs to be treated. It’s recommended that a preservative that offers UV protection be used.

After several years, you may notice that the bamboo is changing color and may even be cracking. This is normal and caused by sunlight and weather conditions. Even wood fences will deteriorate over time. By continuing to apply preservative regularly, the damage can be limited.

By building a fence with bamboo garden fencing, you are making a good decision. Bamboo is considered a renewable resource, so you are helping the environment by using it instead of another material. And you will end up with a truly unique, beautiful fence for your garden.
