When you are ready to attach the bamboo to the fence posts, use a drill to make a hole slightly bigger than the nail. By doing this, you reduce the chance that the bamboo splits or gets crushed.

One important fact to note about bamboo is that it is a grass and not a type of wood. So, it can’t be allowed to sit directly on the ground. If it does, it will deteriorate. This can be avoided easily. In cases where you’d like your fence to fit tightly against the ground, just run a piece of wood across the bottom and then attach the bamboo above it.

Bamboo garden fencing can last years if properly built and maintained. Just like a wooden fence, it needs to be treated. It’s recommended that a preservative that offers UV protection be used.

After several years, you may notice that the bamboo is changing color and may even be cracking. This is normal and caused by sunlight and weather conditions. Even wood fences will deteriorate over time. By continuing to apply preservative regularly, the damage can be limited.
